In Focus: Marshmallow Pavement 2020

Fostering and developing Australian artists is an integral part of The A&R Department. The platform’s imprint, Marshmallow Pavement, is the label where The A&R Department’s mission statement of “Grassroots to Global” becomes focused on those ready to step up. In the lead up to November (Australian Music Month), Marshmallow Pavement’s releases have been placed in focus as assurance that the songs entrusted to it by vital Australian artists are seen and heard clearly.

In-Focus: Marshmallow Pavement 2020 is a retrospective EP of immediate importance and consistent vibrancy. Each artist having released through the imprint within the preceding months display tremendous talent and are great examples of Australia’s world-class emerging acts.

Em George - Light Comes In

Em George is a singer-songwriter based in Sydney. Her introspective and lyrical songwriting style is interweaved with folk and pop-based melodies drawing on influences such as Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake. Her music has been featured on Spotify, Triple J and reached number five on the AMRAP Charts. Focus track Light Comes In a revolution of self that is as haunting as it is liberating.

 

Indy Angel - Move On.

Receiving national airplay on Triple J and ABC podcast features prior to release, Move On. signals more than the rise of a great songwriter, this debut single shows that Indy Angel is ready to expand her musical prospects and is capable of creating lush pop. Move On. has a confident stride, anchored in an empowered RnB vibe, the subtle electro flourishes and elevated bridge build sincerity and personal growth in step with the poise of a young woman free of unnecessary complications.

Pipin - Can’t Be Friends

Pipin (Pr: Pip-in) has established herself through the release of two singles Crowded and Growing Pains which have received radio play on Triple J, Triple J Unearthed and local radio respectively and earned her over 4000 monthly Spotify listeners. Her third single Can’t Be Friends is an energetic pop track that has proven equally successful, with an incredibly catchy synth hook and an equally captivating chorus.

 

Wolfpup - Empty Lanes

Wolfpup’s rebrand nurtured the revitalisation of the spirit that found support from Triple J Unearthed and rotation on the internationally syndicated radio show Lopsided World Of L. Wolfpup’s single Empty Lanes explores change, alienation and personal growth with an exciting honesty and intoxicating pop-production. Which caught the attention of UK blogs and Major Indie radio in Australia.

Vauus - Boy

Indie-rocker and film-maker Vauus released his sophomore single Boy was warmly received amongst Australia’s community radio network and music video blogs premiering on Clipped.TV, securing Clip of the Week on the SYN Network and receiving vibrant accolades from Triple J Unearthed. The song is a youthful anthem celebrating love and the yearning felt by questioning millennials with neon synths, 80s guitars and a bouncing groove that keeps you dancing all the way till the end.

 

Ben Evolent - Golden Age

One of Northern Territory’s most celebrated songwriters and live performers, Ben Evolent has garnered consistent nominations in the prestigious NT Song of the Year Award, winning in 2016 with his song Next Time. He’s held the no.10 spot in the AMRAP charts for 2 weeks, received airplay on national broadcaster Triple J and over 100 000 plays on Spotify. Focus single Golden Age, the strongest representative of his recently released album Wanderous core tenets of self-belief, trust in community and using these pillars to explore and take the steps necessary to find fulfilment. The gruff country rock riffs emboldened by the echoes of Ben Evolent’s resounding presence and strong sense of self.
